Herdsmen Killings: The Responses To Security challenges Are So Weak – Moghalu

The presidential candidate of the Young Progressive Party (YPP) in the last election, Professor Kingsley Moghalu, has said that the responses of the present government to the security challenges besetting the nation are so weak.

Moghalu, who was a guest on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, said that the kind of solutions that are being put on the table is simply inadequate to meet the challenges.

“The responses to the security challenges we are having are so weak and not very well thought through,” he said.

The former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) said there must be a collective coming together to address the fundamental problems of the Nigerian state which are manifesting as insecurity.

In proffering solutions to the security issues, Professor Moghalu said, “The first fundamental solution to Nigeria’s problems is that Nigeria must be constitutionally restructured to become a true federation.

“It is very important that Nigeria’s borders should be manned,” Moghalu stated.

He further opined that the nation needs the political will to be able to solve the problems it has today.

Professor Moghalu also asked the government to be pro-active in its dealing with the issues on the ground.

He said, “When you don’t act in a way that you are supposed to act, you leave the citizens a lot of room for speculation and that is what I will advise the government against.

“We need to take a very very proactive approach to our security problems rather than a reactive approach. reacting only when people are killed”.

Moghalu who s also the Convener of ‘To Build A Nation (TBAN)’, was of the opinion that governance has to be brought down to the people, stressing that the government at the centre is not able to solve everybody’s problem.
