Ahead of the 2023 general elections, different groups have backed Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu and former Senate President, Bukola Saraki to run for the presidency.

While the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stakeholders in Kwara believe that Saraki has the wherewithal to turn around the fortune of the country, the APC groups are projecting Tinubu and Osinbajo.

An APC chieftain and chairman of the Lai Mohammed faction in the state, Bashir Bolarinwa, described Tinubu as the most competent to lead the country irrespective of what his critics say.

Speaking in Ilorin on Wednesday, Bolarinwa said that when the APC National Leader was Lagos State Governor in 1999, he was able to transform the state into the nation’s commercial capital when he left office in 2007.

According to him, Tinubu carved out a master plan for Lagos to enable the state to witness massive infrastructure yearly to the benefit of the people of the state.

“Bola Ahmed Tinubu was the governor of Lagos in 1999. We know how he met the state and we know he has transformed the state. I served under him as a chairman of local government and I make bold to say that he is one person who as governor of Lagos, came in and knew what to do.

“One of his major achievements is to come up with a master plan for Lagos State. Year in year out, Lagos State is witnessing developments in the area of infrastructure. Those that even took after him as governor, have to do less thinking because the master plan made by Asiwaju is there.

“That is a person who has the background, required testimonial to fit into position of President, having served as a governor of the most populous state in Nigeria.  Bola Ahmed Tinubu is a detribalised Nigerian who does not care where you come from.”

Elsewhere in Ilorin, the forum of former state legislators in Kwara cited various qualities that Saraki possesses, which they believe will qualify the former Senate President to rule the country.

Chairman of the group, Abraham Ashaolu, asked the PDP members across the country to endorse him.

“Dr Bukola Saraki is the most appropriate person that Nigeria needs at this moment of national despair in order to galvanise the growth and development of our country. He is a specimen of a detribalised Nigerian that is competent, conscientious and someone that cannot be distracted,” he said.

“All of us on this side have worked under him at one point or another. His work rate is very high and he has a deep-rooted perspective of issues. Dr Saraki’s leadership of the Eight Senate has continued and will continue to define the epitome of the Separation of Powers where the three arms of government stand upright to uphold the tenets of the Constitution.”
