The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Usman Alkali Baba has said that the police is engaging traditional leaders and other stakeholders, ahead of the Anambra governorship election slated for November 6.

He stated this on Thursday during a ministerial briefing at the State House in Abuja.

The IGP maintained that the police have deepened assurance through community engagements, talking to traditional leaders, stakeholder meetings, jingles, etc, and will try to ensure that the adopted strategy will adequately enlighten the people and embolden them to vote.

According to him,  the police have deployed 34,587 personnel (overt and covert) to the state.

He added that over 20,000 active criminal cases filed by the police are still languishing in the court without proper justice meted out.

The police chief further noted that the issue of kidnapping for ransom and criminality will continue unless the process for conviction, and the dispensation of justice within the system is improved upon.
