Brewers reinstate Corey Knebel, option Mark Mathias to alternate training site

The Milwaukee Brewers reinstated reliever Corey Knebel from the 10-day injured list on Tuesday.

To make room on the roster, the Brewers optioned outfielder Mark Mathias to the alternate training site.

Knebel was named an All-Star in 2017 after logging a 1.78 ERA and 126 strikeouts in 76 innings. He’s been trying to get back to that level of production ever since. In 2018, Knebel notched a 3.58 ERA and 16 saves before being optioned to Triple-A Colorado Springs in late August.

Knebel missed the entire 2019 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery. He made his return to the mound July 24, Knebel has made nine appearances and has allowed 11 hits and seven runs in 6 2/3 innings this season. He’s yielded at least one run in five of nine outings. Knebel last appeared in a game Aug. 19 before being placed on the injured list with a strained hamstring the following day.

Mathias logged a .278/.278/.361 slash line with three doubles and four RBI in 16 games with the Brewers this season.
