Brewers right-hander Shelby Miller opts out of 2020 season

Right-handed pitcher Shelby Miller has opted out of the 2020 season, the Milwaukee Brewers announced Monday.

Miller had been working out at the team’s alternative training site and hadn’t made an appearance for the Brewers this season.

Milwaukee signed Miller to a minor-league contract Jan. 28. The 29-year-old was trying to reboot his career after struggling to a 6.89 ERA and 4.5 BB/9 from 2016-19. In 102 games (96 starts) from 2012-15, Miller went 32-35 with a 3.22 ERA and 7.6 K/9.

Miller is the second Brewers player to opt out of the 2020 season, joining outfielder Lorenzo Cain.

The Brewers also announced left-hander Brett Anderson was reinstated from the 10-day injured list. Anderson will start the series opener against the Chicago White Sox on Monday.

Milwaukee optioned catcher Jacob Nottingham to the alternate training site and recalled infielders Ryon Healy and Mark Mathias.
