Cardinals obtain hard-throwing prospect Quezada from Phillies

The St. Louis Cardinals added a hard-throwing right-hander to their pitching staff Wednesday, obtaining Johan Quezada from the Phillies for cash considerations.

Quezada, 26, spent most of last season at the Marlins’ alternate training site. He made his major league debut after being called up in September, allowing three runs on four hits and a walk over three one-inning appearances. Miami placed him on waivers after the season and he was claimed by Philadelphia.

Quezada, who stands 6-foot-9, came up in the Minnesota organization starting in 2013 and was a Florida State League Mid-season All-Star in 2019, when he went 7-2 with a 3.44 ERA in 33 relief outings. He joined Miami as a minor league free agent after that season.
