Cardinals option Ramírez, select Crismatt, add Woodford as 29th man

The St. Louis Cardinals sent pitcher Roel Ramírez, who allowed four consecutive home runs in his major league debut Sunday, to their alternate training site in Springfield, Missouri.

Ramírez will remain with the team in Chicago on the taxi squad. He was replaced on the active roster by pitcher Nabil Crismatt, who was selected from Springfield. In addition, right-hander Jake Woodford, who started the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader against the White Sox in his big league debut, allowing one run in three innings, has been named the 29th man for Monday’s doubleheader against the Cubs.

Crismatt, 25, will make his major league debut whenever he enters a game for the Cardinals. The Cardinals signed the right-hander as a minor league free agent in November 2019. He has a career record of 37-41 with a 3.82 ERA in 167 minor league games in the Mets and Mariners organizations since 2012.
