Cardinals place Hudson on injured list with forearm strain, recall Crismatt

St. Louis Cardinals starter Dakota Hudson is out for the rest of the regular season.

The team announced prior to Friday’s doubleheader against the Pittsburgh Pirates that it has placed the right-hander on the 10-day injured list with a right forearm strain. The injury forced Hudson to exit Thursday night’s game in Pittsburgh after two scoreless innings.

With just 10 days remaining in the Cardinals’ season, the earliest Hudson could return is for a potential playoff appearance. He finishes the truncated 2020 season with stellar numbers: A 2.77 ERA, 31 strikeouts, 15 walks and a .178 opponent batting average over 39 innings spanning eight starts.

To fill Hudson’s spot on the roster, the Cardinals recalled reliever Nabil Crismatt from their taxi squad. Crismatt returns after being optioned following a three-inning relief appearance on Tuesday night. The 25-year-old right-hander has had a strong first season in the big leagues, posting a 3.24 ERA with eight strikeouts and one walk over 8 1/3 innings.
