Cardinals place Kim on IL, activate Andrew Miller

Playing five games in four days at Wrigley Field is no easy feat. It is one that the St. Louis Cardinals however, are in the midst of.

Manager Mike Shildt had an idea of how the team was going to take on the challenge, at least in terms of starting pitching. That was before there was a change with the Cardinals’ starting rotation.

The St. Louis Cardinals placed left-handed pitcher Kwang Hyun Kim on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to Sept. 2.

According to Anne Rogers of MLB.com, Kim was placed on the IL due to a kidney ailment, and will be released from the hospital on Sept. 5.

Kim woke up with abdominal pain Friday and was taken to the ER, where he was diagnosed with a kidney ailment, Mozeliak said. He’s feeling much better now, and team is optimistic he will be able to pitch again this season. Kim will be released today and will return to St. Louis.

Kim was previously set to start Sunday in the fourth game of the five-game series in Chicago. Kim has a 2-0 record with an 0.83 ERA and one save over 21 2/3 innings pitched in five appearances, four of those starts, with the Cardinals in the 2020 season. He had not allowed an earned run through his last 17 innings.

According to Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Dakota Hudson will start Sunday’s game for the Cardinals. The second game of the Sept. 5 doubleheader will be handled by the Cardinals’ bullpen.

The Cardinals also activated left-handed pitcher Andrew Miller from the 10-day IL. Miller was placed on the IL on Aug. 24 due to left shoulder fatigue. He is 0-1 with a 4.76 ERA in seven relief appearances so far this season and has earned two saves in as many opportunities.

Right-handed pitcher Nabil Crismatt was recalled from the Cardinals Alternate Training Site and added as the 29th man on the roster for the Sept. 5 doubleheader versus the Cubs. Crismatt has pitched 2 1/3 innings for the Cardinals this season over the course of two appearances, both at Wrigley, and has not given up any runs.
