Eagles acquire CB Chauncey Gardner-Johnson from Saints

The Philadelphia Eagles have acquired safety Chauncey Gardner-Johnson from the New Orleans Saints.

Philadelphia will send a 2023 fifth-round draft pick and the lower of their two 2024 sixth-round draft picks to New Orleans for Gardner-Johnson and a 2025 seventh-round draft pick, NFL Network reported.

A trade reportedly materialized in the wake of Gardner-Johnson and the Saints failing to agree on an extension.

Gardner-Johnson, a free agent after the 2022 season, spent the last three years with the Saints, who selected him with the No. 105 pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. He finished last season with three interceptions, 46 combined tackles, four tackles for loss and two sacks while establishing himself as one of the NFL’s better nickel backs.

The 24-year-old defensive back joins a comparably stacked Eagles secondary that includes Darius Slay and free-agent signee James Bradberry. The Eagles released safety Anthony Harris on Tuesday morning.
