Minnesota designated the right-hander for release or assignment on Friday. To replace him on the active roster, the Twins selected the contract of right-hander Edwar Colina.

In his two outings with the Twins — July 28 and Sept. 22 — Bailey allowed three runs on six hits in eight innings of work. The 34-year-old whiffed seven hitters and walked three. Bailey spent most of the season on the injured list with right biceps tendinitis, as he was placed on the 10-day injured list Aug. 2 and moved to the 45-day IL on Aug. 22.

Colina, listed as the Twins’ No. 16 overall prospect by MLB.com, signed with the Twins in September 2015 and has spent the last four seasons with the organization. In 2019, Colina registered an 8-2 record, 2.96 ERA and 102 strikeouts over 19 appearances (97 1.3 innings) for High-A Fort Myers, Double-A Pensacola and Triple-A Rochester.

Minnesota begins its final regular-season series with Cincinnati on Friday night. Jose Berrios, Michael Pineda and Rich Hill are listed as the probable starters against the Reds.
