Kumerow, draft pick Hanson among cuts as Packers get down to 53
For the first time in at least 15 years, the Green Bay Packers did not keep an undrafted free agent on their initial 53-man roster. Since at least 2005, the team has had at least one undrafted player on the roster at cutdown day.
The Packers trimmed their roster at the NFL deadline by letting go of, among others, popular veteran wide receiver Jake Kumerow and seventh-round draft pick offensive lineman Jake Hanson. Sixth-round pick offensive lineman Simon Stepaniak was placed on the reserve/non-football injury list.
Kumerow, who went to UW-Whitewater and was a valuable player on special teams, caught 12 passes last season for 219 yards with a touchdown. In 2018 he had eight catches for 103 yards and a TD.

Also let loose among the cuts were veteran offensive lineman Alex Light and running back Dexter Williams, a sixth-round pick in 2019.
In addition to Stepaniak, running back Patrick Taylor was put on the NFI list while linebacker Curtis Bolton was placed on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list.
The Packers can add players to the practice squad beginning Sunday at noon. The practice squad has been increased to 16 players for the 2020 season and can include up to six veterans, regardless of service time.
During the season, two practice squad players can be activated for games on Sunday. However, each player can be recalled just twice before having to go through waivers to be placed back on the practice squad following the game.
Green Bay’s 53-man roster isn’t necessarily set either, as the team could make a waiver claim based off other teams’ cuts.
