Nashville set to return as Brewers’ Triple-A affiliate

The Milwaukee Brewers announced their four invitations to minor-league teams for the 2021 season and there’s a familiar name at the top of the list.

The Brewers invited the Nashville Sounds to be their Triple-A affiliate. The Sounds served as Milwaukee’s Triple-A team from 2005-14 before switching to Oakland. Nashville was Texas’ Triple-A franchise in 2019.

Also invited are three returning teams: the Biloxi Shuckers (Double-A), Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (High-A) and Carolina Mudcats (Low-A). The Timber Rattlers and Mudcats are switching levels, as Wisconsin had been Low-A and Mudcats High-A.

“We are excited to receive the invitation to become the Triple-A affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers today,” Nashville general manager Adam Nuse said in a release. “Led by Mark Attanasio and David Stearns, the Brewers are an organization that places a strong emphasis on player development. The Sounds still need to have the overall agreement with Major League Baseball formalized before any affiliation can be finalized. Once that occurs, we look forward to building the relationship and re-introducing Milwaukee Brewers baseball to the City of Nashville.”

San Antonio, which had been Milwaukee’s Triple-A affiliate in 2019, is moving to Double-A and received an invite from the San Diego Padres.

The Brewers also won’t have the Rocky Mountain Vibes in their pipeline anymore as that team will be an independent team partnering with MLB.
