NCAA bracketology roundup: Badgers still destined for No. 5 seed

Believe it or not, the month of March is just over one week away. That means March Madness is closer than ever.

As the college basketball season heats up, FOX Sports Wisconsin rounds up what experts are saying about which seed the Wisconsin Badgers will be assigned in the NCAA tournament. This is the fourth edition of the 2020-21 bracket roundup.

The Wisconsin Badgers men’s basketball team only has three games remaining to boost its resume before the postseason begins.

A home tilt against No. 5 Illinois on Saturday provides Wisconsin with an opportunity for a signature win. Then, the Badgers wrap up their season on the road against Purdue (March 2) and No. 9 Iowa (March 7).

More Badgers coverage

The Badgers could use a big win. Wisconsin has lost its last five games against ranked opponents, dating back to Dec. 31 when the Badgers defeated then-No. 21 Minnesota 71-59. The Badgers don’t have any bad losses on the 2020-21 season, but they don’t have any big wins either.

Taking all that in consideration, a No. 5 seed seems about right for Wisconsin. That’s what Bracket Matrix, a site dedicated to compiling predictions from all corners of the internet, averaged out Monday in its latest prognostication.

Of the notable brackets we’re tracking throughout the season, SB Nation and Watch Stadium both plummeted the Badgers from a No. 3 seed last week to a No. 6. CBS and Haslametrics believe Wisconsin deserves a No. 7 seed.

ESPN, Sports Illustrated and The Athletic all have the Badgers at a No. 5 seed.

The best news of all this, however, is Wisconsin was included on all 100 brackets tracked by Bracket Matrix.
