No. 4 Gophers overwhelm Ohio State 5-2

The No. 4 Minnesota Golden Gophers improved to 15-3 with a 5-2 win over the Ohio State Buckeyes to secure the two-game series sweep.

Minnesota took the lead with 12:16 to go in the first period on a tap-in shot from Jonny Sorenson.

The Gophers poured it on in the second period. The Buckeyes were able to get one goal on the board, but Minnesota countered with three in the frame from Sampo Ranta, Jaxon Nelson and a breakaway score from Jackson LaCombe on an Ohio State power play.

The Buckeyes were able to score one more time in the third but the Gophers countered with an empty-net goal.

Minnesota will begin a two-game home series against the Wisconsin Badgers on Friday at 7 p.m. Both games will be televised on FOX Sports North.
