Odorizzi heads back to 10-day injured list as Twins recall Poppen

The Minnesota Twins placed the right-hander back on the 10-day injured list Friday with a blister on his right hand, retroactive to Sept. 17. To take his place on the roster, Minnesota recalled Sean Poppen from the alternate training site.

Odorizzi suffered the injury during his start Wednesday night when he allowed one run over 3 2/3 innings in the Twins’ 5-1 win over Chicago. On the season, Odorizzi has yielded 10 earned runs in 13 2/3 innings with 12 strikeouts and three walks. It’s his third trip to the 10-day injured list.

Poppen has registered a 4.70 ERA (2.15 FIP) with 10 strikeouts and four walks in six appearances (7 2/3 innings) this season.

Minnesota begins a three-game series with the Chicago Cubs on Friday night.
