Packers add three players to roster before season opener

On the eve before their 2020 season opener, the Green Bay Packers added three players to their gameday roster.

Linebacker Khrys Barnes, an undrafted free agent from UCLA, was signed to the active roster. In addition, linebacker Tipa Galeai and tight end John Lovett were elevated from the practice squad.

More Packers coverage

As a senior with the Bruins, Barnes all 11 games he played in and recorded 74 tackles, 10 tackles for a loss, four sacks, a forced fumble, an interception and eight passes defensed.

Galeai was signed as an undrafted free agent out of Utah State while Lovett, who played quarterback at Princeton, was claimed off waivers from Kansas City, which signed him in May 2019.

This season teams can elevate two players per game to the active roster from the practice squad. Each player can go back and forth from the practice squad to active roster and back to the practice squad “freely” twice. The third time that player would need to pass through waivers.

The Packers open the season Sunday at 12 p.m. at Minnesota.
