Royals call up Adams, option Newberry to alternate site

The Kansas City Royals shook up their bullpen mix a bit before Sunday’s series finale with the Minnesota Twins, recalling right-hander Chance Adams from their alternate training site and optioning right-hander Jake Newberry to the alternate site.

Adams, an offseason acquisition from the Yankees, was previously recalled by the Royals on August 8 but did not appear in a game. The 26-year-old has an 8.18 ERA with 27 strikeouts and 15 walks over 16 major league games spanning two seasons.

Newberry, 25, has made seven relief appearances for the Royals this season, posting a 2.16 ERA with eight strikeouts and four walks in 8 1/3 innings.
