Royals designate Jorge López for assignment

It appears that right-hander Jorge López’s time with the Kansas City Royals may be coming to an end.

The team designated López for assignment on Friday after activating him from the bereavement/family medical emergency list. They now have seven days to trade him, release him or outright him off the 40-man roster.

López, 27, was acquired from the Brewers in the July 2018 trade that sent Mike Moustakas to Milwaukee. Over 47 appearances (including 25 starts) with the Royals, López posted a 6.42 ERA while striking out 132 and walking 51 in 158 1/3 innings. In one relief appearance this season, he allowed two runs on three hits over 2/3 of an inning.
