Sporting KC player is confirmed positive for COVID-19

A player on Sporting Kansas City‘s first team has been confirmed positive for COVID-19, the team announced Saturday.

The unnamed player is the only one affected on the team, according to the club. All other players and team personnel are asymptomatic and have returned multiple negative test results.

The player self-isolated following the first positive test result and remains in isolation until medically cleared.

Sporting KC is scheduled to host Minnesota United FC on Sunday night. The team has implemented contact tracing prior to the match.

MLS testing protocol requires all players to undergo polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests every other day, including the day before a match. Two consecutive positive test results constitute confirmation of a positive COVID-19 case.
