Sue Bird says she plans to attend Women’s World Cup final

SEATTLE (AP) — Sue Bird says the reaction has been mostly positive to her article on The Players’ Tribune website regarding girlfriend Megan Rapinoe and the United States‘ performance at the Women’s World Cup.

The WNBA star said Wednesday she plans to fly to France for Sunday’s final, in which the U.S. will go for its fourth World Cup title. Bird says she sat down to write the article last Sunday and it was published on Tuesday. The headline caught attention for its reference to President Donald Trump and his comments regarding Rapinoe .

Bird has missed the entire season for the Seattle Storm while recovering from knee surgery. She is continuing her rehabilitation on the injury but said the surgery was a bit more extensive than initially expected and that her return this season remains in question.
