Texas QB Quinn Ewers gets car towed during season opener

You know what’s worse that getting your car towed? Getting your car towed during your quarterback debut with the Texas Longhorns.

That’s exactly what happened to Quinn Ewers on Saturday night.

Ewers took to social media to share that his car was towed during the Longhorns’ season opener, a dominant 52–10 win over Louisiana-Monroe. His tweet quickly spread like wildfire, racking up more than 25,000 likes.

Despite the off-field incident, Ewers’ Saturday wasn’t all bad. The 19-year-old finished Week 1 completing 16 of 24 passes for 225 yards, two touchdowns and one interception in his Texas debut.

Head coach Steve Sarkisian named redshirt freshman Ewers, a transfer from Ohio State, the Longhorns’ starter last month over redshirt sophomore Hudson Card, who had previously played in nine games for Texas.

Ewers’ arrival in Austin came amid former Longhorns QB Casey Thompson‘s exit for Nebraska. Thompson transferred out after three seasons at Texas, where he was the primary starter in 2021.

Ewers, a former five-star prospect and Texas native, was initially committed to the Longhorns before flipping to the Buckeyes in November 2020. He didn’t spend much time in Columbus behind C.J. Stroud, however. He played just two snaps last season before opting to reclassify and enter his name into the transfer portal, which landed him back with the Longhorns.

Thankfully, Ewers won’t have to drive himself to Texas’s Week 2 matchup against No. 1 Alabama (12 p.m. ET on FOX and the FOX Sports app), as the Longhorns will hit the road for Tuscaloosa next weekend.
