Second baseman Luis Arraez was placed on the 10-day injured list with left knee tendinitis, the team announced Friday. To take his place on the roster, the Twins recalled left-handed pitcher Devin Smeltzer from the alternate training site.

In 30 games this season, Arraez is batting .288 with five doubles, 10 RBI and eight walks. He’s logged an on-base percentage of .336. Arraez joins outfielder Max Kepler, right-hander Jake Odorizzi, right-hander Homer Bailey and catchers Mitch Garver and Alex Avila on the 10-day injured list.

Smeltzer was optioned to the alternate training site Monday when Minnesota reinstated Cody Stashak from the injured list. In seven appearances this season, Smeltzer has logged a 2-0 record, 6.75 ERA, 15 strikeouts and five walks.
