The 28-year-old will take the roster spot of linebacker Troy Dye, who was placed on injured reserve. Davis will give the Vikings depth after four-time Pro Bowl linebacker Anthony Barr was ruled out for the season with a torn pec.

Signed by New Orleans as an undrafted free agent out of Sacramento State, Davis made his NFL debut in 2014. Denver claimed him off waivers in the middle of the 2014 season, and he quickly found a home there.

Davis spent the next six seasons with the Broncos, logging 470 tackles, 21 tackles for loss, 11 quarterback hits and two sacks from 2014-19. He played one defensive snap and 24 special-teams snaps in the Broncos’ 24-10 win over Carolina in the 2015 Super Bowl.

On Wednesday, Minnesota signed linebacker Cale Garrett to its practice squad.
