Vikings sign RB Dalvin Cook to contract extension

Entering his fourth season in the NFL, Minnesota Vikings running back Dalvin Cook wanted a contract extension. On Saturday, he got it.

The Vikings announced Cook, whose current deal was set to expire after the 2020 season, had been extended to a multiyear contract.

Cook, according to multiple media reports, is receiving a five-year contract worth $63 million, with $28 million guaranteed.

Drafted in the second round of the 2017 draft, Cook played in only four games as a rookie due to suffering a torn ACL. He played in 11 games in 2018, rushing for 615 yards (4.6 average).

Playing and starting in 14 games in 2019, Cook rushed for 1,135 yards (4.5 average) and 13 touchdowns an also caught 53 passes for 519 yards.

Cook is expected to have another big year in 2020 for the Vikings, who open their season Sunday at home against Green Bay. Now he’ll be able to do it knowing he has security for the future — and remaining in Minnesota.
