Wild re-sign goaltender Kaapo Kahkonen

The Minnesota Wild has re-signed goaltender Kaapo Kahkonen to a two-year contract.

The deal is a two-way contract for 2020-21 for $700,000/$250,000 and a one-way contact for $750,000 in 2021-22.

Kahkonen, 24, had a great season with the Iowa Wild of the American Hockey League. He had a 25-6-3 record with seven shutouts in 34 games,  a 2.07 goals-against average (GAA) and a .927 save percentage (SV%). He won the Aldege “Baz” Bastien Memorial Award as the AHL’s best goaltender and made it on the AHL All-Star team.

The 6-foot-2 native of Helsinki, Finland performed well when given chances with the Minnesota Wild. In his five starts, he finished with a 3-1-1 record with a 2.96 GAA and a .913 SV%.

Kahkonen will wear No. 34 with Minnesota.
