Here are the top plays!

England 0, United States 0

10′: What could have been

Both teams came out strong. Harry Kane was this close to getting England on the board early, but his shot was narrowly blocked by U.S. defender Walker Zimmerman.

17′: USA is knocking

Haji Wright nearly put the U.S. in the lead with this header, but his attempt came up short and things remained scoreless early in the first half.

26′: Heating up

Shortly after, Weston McKennie missed another chance for the U.S. as the first half continued.

27′: No call

As the competition continued to heat up on the field, the sports world took notice of the lack of yellow cards shown through the half-hour mark, specifically when no card was given for this challenge on USMNT defender Antonee Robinson

It’s worth noting that no England players received a yellow card in its opening match against Iran.

33′: Off the bar!

Christian Pulisic hit the crossbar with a left-footed shot that was inches away from putting the U.S. on top.

43′: Chances keep coming

Once again, Pulisic was able to take a shot from the box, but this time he missed just to the left.

45′ + 1′: Denied!

The first save of the match for Team USA came in the final moments of the first half in stoppage time when USA keeper Matt Turner denied England’s Mason Mount

Just like that, things ended at a stalemate headed into the break.

51′: Taking one for the team

Both teams came out strong in the second half. Tyler Adams set the tone for the U.S. with this big-time tackle right out of the gate.

53′: No yellow

Once again, England went unpenalized after this run-in with USMNT’s Tim Weah.

62′: Adams in action

USMNT captain Adams won a free kick for the U.S. after this shove by Mount as the second half winded down.

83′: A family affair

Giovanni Reyna replaced Weah late in the second half. His participation in Friday’s match marked a milestone within his family, taking the field 16 years after his father, Claudio Reyna, played in his last FIFA World Cup.

90′ + 3′: For good measure

Kane made one last attempt for England with a header in the final moments of Friday’s match, but he wasn’t able to connect. With that, things ended scoreless.

PREGAME:

Friday’s match against England was the USMNT’s second in the group stage after a 1-1 draw against Wales earlier this week. On the other side, England — a favorite to win it all — picked up a draw against the U.S. after opening the tournament with a dominant 6-2 victory over Iran on Monday.
