First-round pick Mitchell revitalizing Brewers farm system

Garrett Mitchell, Brewers prospect (⬆️ UP)

With a few swings of the bat, Milwaukee’s farm system suddenly doesn’t look so gloomy. Mitchell, selected 20th overall out of UCLA in 2020, is looking comfortable during camp. The center fielder is batting 8-for-16 (.500) with one double, one home run, four RBI and two walks. We likely won’t be seeing Mitchell suit up at American Family Field in 2021, but his big-league debut can’t be too far away. Can we say 2022?

More Brewers coverage

Greg Gard, Badgers head coach (➡️ EVEN)

This goes without saying, but it’s a big week for Gard. His Badgers men’s basketball team earned a No. 9 seed in the NCAA tournament and will battle No. 8 North Carolina on Friday night. The bad news? The Tar Heels have never lost a first-round game under head coach Roy Williams, posting a perfect 15-0 record. In fact, Williams is 30-0 in the first round over his coaching career (including his tenure at Kansas). Wisconsin entered the season with a veteran roster and high expectations, due to finishing off the 2019-20 campaign with eight straight victories. Does an early exit this postseason result in Gard being placed on the hot seat?

J.P. Feyereisen, Brewers reliever (⬆️ UP)

The native of River Falls, Wis., is putting together a great camp. In five appearance (5 2/3 IP), Feyereisen hasn’t allowed a single hit or run. He’s logged 10 strikeouts compared to one walk. We’re not saying Josh Hader and Devin Williams need to worry about their job security, but it’s encouraging to see the former UW-Stevens Point right-hander fight for an opening day roster spot.

Cole Caufield, Badgers forward (⬆️ UP)

Wisconsin’s star sophomore forward was unanimously named the Big Ten Player of the Year on Tuesday. Caufield finished the regular season as the leader in goals (27) and points (48) in all of college hockey. He was also named a candidate for the Hobey Baker award, given to the top NCAA men’s hockey player.

Giannis Antetokounmpo, Bucks forward (⬆️ UP)

Three games, three consecutive triple-doubles. The Greek Freak posted 24 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists against New York on Thursday, and then followed it up with 33-11-11 and 31-15-10 in back-to-back games vs. the Washington Wizards. Oh, and the Bucks are 9-1 in their last 10 games since that odd five-game losing streak in February.
